Comments:
  • Movement I  comments:
  • Originally written for piano
  • First movement is most well known
  • Parts scored sparingly, reflecting Saties' original intent of simplicity
  • Music has String Bass part playing pizzicato
  • All three movements to be played molto legato
  • Good teaching material for maintaining long, well-shaped phrases, balance of ensemble
  • Dynamics used are ff, mf, mp
  • Movement II comments:
  • Dynamics used are f, mf, mp, p
  • One solo line for one flute requires strong player
  • Tutti flute and trumpet section requires crucial intonation for sections
  • Music is very floating and simple
  • Movenent III comments:
  • There is melody line with oboe, but cued in flute part
  • Same dynamics throughout movement and little contrast
  • Music and melody is very simple with ritard at end
