BRIAN P. HARRIS
BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Brian P. Harris is the recently retired Director of Bands at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. Prior to joining the MCC faculty, he taught public school band from 1979 to 1986 and was Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1991 to 2000. He  holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University, the Master of Music Education from Louisiana State University, and the Bachelor of Music from Samford University.

During his tenure at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Harris initiated the Young Band Repertoire Project, a multi-year endeavor to record, document, evaluate, analyze, and list information regarding repertoire for the young band (2nd & 3rd year players). He also provides resources for band directors through his Bandroom.com Publications website.

During his 16 years at McLennan, he conducted the college Wind Ensemble and the Waco Community Band. He is author of the (former) Warner Brothers method book Directional Warm-Ups for Band. He has published and presented clinics and research at state and national levels and remains active as an adjudicator, clinician, and composer.

In retirement, he and his wife Sarah (also a retired band director) spend most of their time traveling around the globe. They especially enjoy meeting and hearing bands in other countries and frequently coordinate personal travels to clinic and guest conduct school and community bands - often at little to no expense to the host. Brian and Sarah have learned that a meal, concert, or rehearsal with new friends can be more valuable than money!
